Lead Mechanical CAD Designer / CAD DRAFTER (HORSEHEADS, NY)
2D/3D mechanical design, technical drawings, Creo, Windchill, GD&T, and manufacturability work; Drafting process sheets, setup sheets and other documents using Creo and Windchill. 3D modeling using Creo and Windchill. 3D printing and fixture design. Fully-Benefited Contract to Hire Role.
Summary:
Our client in Horseheads is hiring a TOOLING CAD DRAFTER/ DESIGNER to create and maintain process sheets, setup sheets, work instructions, technical drawings, and other manufacturing documentation using Creo and Windchill. They will develop 3D models, assemblies, fixtures, and tooling; support 3D printing and rapid prototyping; and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate, manufacturable, and revision-controlled designs.
Job Responsibilities:
Designs a variety of simple or complex tooling and associated drawings to aide production personnel in the mass production of medical devices.
Utilize CREO software to design tooling and drawings for use in production. Tooling to include: mechanical fixtures, 3D printed fixtures/job aids, dies /workholdings, and other special design projects as requested by the Tooling Department Supervisor or assigned customer.
Corroborate with Manufacturing Engineering personnel to design and fabricate tooling.
Interact with Toolmakers to see design to completion by incorporating feedback to ensure timely and cost effective solutions
Plan and schedule daily workload, working with autonomy, and design status to ensure timely design completion and fabrication cycle.
Provide design status to the Tooling Design Department Supervisor as requested.
Complete special projects as assigned by the Tooling Design Department Supervisor.
Follow the Design process systems by promoting completed and approved designs through Windchill.
Prepare requisitions, as needed, to purchase materials and/or tooling from outside vendors.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree preferred; and one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in Windows, CREO (or similar 3D modeling software), and CNC operations.
A working knowledge of machine shop practices related to the operation of manual and CNC milling machines, lathes and general shop equipment as well as the proper use of measuring instruments.
