Job Title: Home Infusion Registered Nurse
Job Description
This role provides high-quality home infusion nursing care, using the nursing process and critical thinking to promote and maintain patient health across home, hospital, and clinical settings. The nurse coordinates and manages all aspects of infusion therapy as ordered by the physician, collaborates closely with patients, families, and the healthcare team, and ensures timely and accurate clinical documentation. This position offers room for professional growth and advancement while delivering patient-centered care in a flexible, field-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Use the full nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients receiving home infusion therapy.
- Apply systematic critical-thinking skills to guide data gathering, assessment, and nursing judgment in all aspects of patient care.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of infusion nursing care in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
- Administer infusion therapy, IV medications, injections, and related treatments safely and accurately in home, hospital, or clinical settings.
- Collaborate closely with patients, their families, and all members of the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Submit complete and accurate documentation within required time frames, including initial assessments, visit notes, and patient education records.
- Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration and promptly communicate urgent clinical findings to appropriate team members.
- Maintain required annual clinical competencies and stay current with best practices in infusion and home care nursing.
- Protect the privacy, security, and confidentiality of patient, staff, and organizational data, adhering to HIPAA and all applicable laws regarding PHI and ePHI.
- Foster a non-discriminatory, culturally sensitive care environment that respects each patient’s history and preferences.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating strong work ethic, accountability, and excellent customer service to patients.
- Travel within the assigned territory as needed and adjust schedules flexibly to meet patient needs.
- Participate in on-call rotation as needed, providing support for urgent patient needs outside of standard visit times.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance and demeanor at all times when representing the organization.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle, including in adverse weather conditions, when traveling to patient homes or clinical sites.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures related to confidentiality, safety, and professional conduct.
Essential Skills
- Current, active, and in-good-standing Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Proven experience administering infusion therapy in a home, hospital, or clinical setting.
- Excellent IV insertion and management skills, including peripheral IVs and infusion devices as appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver safe and effective patient care in infusion therapy, including medication administration and monitoring.
- Strong critical-thinking, assessment, and clinical judgment skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision while managing time and caseload effectively.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory.
- Ability to lift at least 10 pounds as required for equipment and supplies.
- Comfort with documenting care accurately and completely within required time frames.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in homecare is preferred.
- Pediatric, emergency room (ER), and/or medical-surgical nursing experience is a plus.
- Experience with acute care or oncology nursing is beneficial for managing complex infusion patients.
- Familiarity with electronic health and workflow systems such as WeInfuse and AlayaCare is an advantage.
- Experience in broader healthcare settings, including medical and acute care environments, supports strong clinical decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively educate patients and families about infusion therapy and self-care.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of proprietary and patient information in compliance with HIPAA and related regulations.
- Motivation to grow professionally, with interest in advancement opportunities within infusion and home care nursing.
Work Environment
The role is primarily field-based, providing infusion therapy in patients’ homes, with potential care also delivered in hospital or clinical settings as needed. The nurse travels within an assigned territory, including in adverse weather conditions, and operates a motor vehicle regularly to reach patient locations. Work involves handling infusion equipment, IV supplies, and electronic systems such as WeInfuse and AlayaCare for documentation and care coordination. The environment requires adherence to infection control practices and safe handling of medications and medical equipment. The position calls for a consistently neat, clean, and professional appearance and demeanor, reflecting a high standard of professionalism in all patient and team interactions. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Columbia, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $97760.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
