Job Description

Airport Transit Train Mechanic (Paid Training Provided!)

Location: Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
Pay: $24.50 + possible overtime opportunities
Schedule: Full-Time | In-person | Shift-based (including nights/weekends/holidays)
Career Level: Entry to Mid-Level

About the Role

Are you experienced in automotive, diesel, equipment, or mechanical repair and looking for a career with long-term growth? Turn your mechanical skills into a high-demand technical career as an Airport Transit Train Mechanic supporting the automated people-mover train system at Houston's busiest airport.

You’ll help maintain and repair the driverless transit trains that carry millions of passengers every year. This role offers paid, hands-on training and the chance to work with advanced mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems in a secure, high-tech airport environment.

What You’ll Do

As an Airport Transit Train Mechanic, you will work on real mechanical and electrical troubleshooting—not just preventive maintenance. Your responsibilities include:

Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and safety checks on automated transit vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electromechanical, and HVAC issues
  • Work on components such as motors, gearboxes, brakes, pneumatics, and control systems
  • Assist with corrective and emergency repairs to keep trains operating safely

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic meters, and schematics
  • Identify root-cause failures and support system restoration
  • Coordinate with senior technicians on complex faults and system adjustments

Operational Support

  • Ensure the transit system meets operational and safety requirements
  • Document maintenance activities and follow established procedures
  • Contribute to 24/7 operations with rotating shift coverage

What We’re Looking For

We value real hands-on experience—shop, field, trade school, or self-taught/personal project mechanical experience. Ideal candidates have:

Required:

  • Experience in automotive, diesel, equipment, or mechanical repair
  • Examples: engine work, brakes, suspension, electrical diagnosis, AC/HVAC, drivetrain or component repair
  • Ability to use common mechanical tools and learn new systems
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work shifts (nights, weekends, holidays)
  • Ability to pass a federal background check for airport security clearance

Preferred:

  • Trade school, vocational training, or military mechanical experience
  • Experience with electromechanical systems or reading basic schematics

Why You’ll Love This Job

✔ Paid Training — build new technical skills from day one
✔ Stable Full-Time Role — consistent hours + overtime opportunities
✔ Career Growth — advance into senior tech, lead, or specialist roles
✔ Unique Work Environment — maintain high-tech automated transit vehicles
