Our client, a well-established employee-owned organization with operations across multiple business entities, is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to join its finance leadership team. This role offers the opportunity to lead enterprise-wide accounting and financial reporting functions while contributing to strategic growth initiatives, process improvements, and long-term organizational success.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Corporate Controller will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and financial planning activities across the organization. As the Corporate Controller, you will serve as a key member of the finance leadership team, providing financial oversight and strategic guidance to support continued growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-wide accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end and year-end close processes across multiple business entities.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and maintain consistent accounting policies and procedures throughout the organization.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to controllers and accounting teams across subsidiary organizations.
- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, long-range financial planning, and business performance analysis.
- Develop financial models and evaluate capital investment opportunities to support strategic decision-making.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, corporate governance practices, and regulatory compliance processes.
- Coordinate financial reviews, audits, valuation activities, and initiatives that support audit readiness.
- Support treasury operations, cash flow management, financing activities, and working capital optimization.
- Lead finance systems enhancements, reporting improvements, and process transformation initiatives.
- Oversee corporate insurance and risk management programs.
- Manage mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integration efforts from a financial and accounting perspective.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team while establishing departmental goals and performance expectations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leaders throughout the organization to support strategic initiatives and operational success.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a senior accounting leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, and corporate accounting practices.
- Experience within public accounting and/or multi-entity organizations.
- Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, consolidated reporting, audits, and internal controls.
- Proven success leading accounting teams and implementing process improvements.
- Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to translate financial results into actionable business insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple business functions.
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting technologies.
- Ability to travel occasionally (approximately 10-20%).
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or other multi-location business environments.
- Experience with Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integrations.
- Exposure to multi-currency and international accounting environments.
- Experience driving audit readiness, financial systems implementations, and reporting transformation initiatives.
- Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP platforms.
