Metal Shop Supervisor

The Shop Manager owns the day-to-day direction of their half of the machine shop — two of the four production cells. This role sets the daily plan for those cells: goals, job priorities, and work assignment — and is accountable for that half of the shop meeting its production commitments. The Shop Manager holds disciplinary authority over their half's employees and shares hiring authority with the Floor & Timekeeping lead. The two Shop Managers coordinate closely to keep direction and standards consistent shop-wide.

• Set the daily and overall production plan for their two cells: goals, job priorities, and work assignment.

• Meet each morning with the Plant Manager and Floor & Timekeeping lead, alongside the other Shop Manager, to align on shop-wide priorities.

• Meet with their two Cell Leads to communicate the day's plan and hold them accountable for production, safety, and quality within their cells.

• Coordinate with the other Shop Manager to keep priorities, standards, and coverage consistent across both halves of the shop.

• Hold disciplinary authority for employees within their half of the shop, handled consistently and in line with company policy.

• Share hiring authority for their half's open positions jointly with the Floor & Timekeeping lead.

• Escalate resource, staffing, or equipment issues to the Plant Manager as needed.

• Maintain a safe, productive, and well-organized shop floor within their half, in partnership with their Cell Leads.

Directly supervises two of the four Cell Leads. Indirectly oversees the shop-floor employees within those two cells through that reporting structure.

• Prior supervisory or management experience in a metal fabrication, machine shop, or manufacturing environment.

• Working knowledge of the shop's core processes (welding, laser/Vipros, brake press, punch press) sufficient to plan and prioritize across them.

• Demonstrated ability to manage production priorities, personnel issues, and daily scheduling under deadline pressure.

• Strong communication skills; comfortable collaborating with a peer manager and holding leads accountable.
