Job Description

The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate, and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. S/he schedules and coordinates tests; records test results, and prepare and maintain operational logs. The Ultrasound Technologist calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • Graduate from an AMA-approved school or the combination of education, knowledge, skills, mental development, and relevant experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.
  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) or ARRT(R)(S) (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) registry is required within the first year of employment.

Desirable Education:

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer).

Desirable Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of Ultrasound (Sonographer) experience in Imaging in a health care setting.

Duties & Responsibilities:

General

  • Prepare examination room, equipment, and materials as needed for patient.
  • Follow prescribed techniques which include, but not limited to, adjustment of equipment; arranged immobilization; and support devices to obtain proper positioning of patient.
  • Observe patient and machine during procedure and report unusual occurrences and record patient’s condition.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of all necessary supplies.
  • Perform general office duties, write reports, (with Radiologist consent), and any deemed necessary to maintain a controlled and functional department.
  • Retain on-call status and rotating shift as required to meet departmental needs.
  • Help maintain quality assurance, quality control, and maintain records as defined in departmental policies.
  • Conduct on-going in-services for Hospital staff regarding patient preparation, length of exam; area of interest, order for exams, etc.
  • Enter and retrieve information from computer, as necessary.

Patients

  • Regard safety of patient as a priority in performing procedures.
  • Treat patients in a professional manner.
  • Maintain imaging equipment (make sure equipment is in proper working condition).
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and neat.
  • Clean and disinfect Ultrasound room and equipment before and after patient usage.
  • Collaborate with other departments, as necessary to improve patient outcome.
