Lead Teacher – Early Childhood Learning Center

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:15 a.m.–5:15 p.m.

Pay Rate: $25.96/hr

Job Type: Temporary; Full-Time

Position Summary:

The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing classroom programs in accordance with the college’s policies and philosophy. The position reports to the Site Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom programs and curriculum.

  • Support children’s individual needs, interests, learning styles and development.

  • Provide daily small- and large-group experiences and outdoor learning activities.

  • Maintain a positive, organized indoor and outdoor learning environment.

  • Work with the teaching team and Associate Teacher.

  • Communicate with parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required.

  • Complete developmental observations, screenings, assessments and other required records.

  • Develop a monthly newsletter.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development and college events.

  • Maintain confidentiality of children, parents and staff.

  • Follow applicable licensing, grant and NAEYC requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Early Childhood (ZA or ZS) endorsement; or

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a valid CDA credential; or

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education with a preschool teaching specialization, or within three semesters of completing the degree.

  • One year of experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility.

  • Successful student fieldwork/student teaching experience at a nationally accredited early childhood education center or Pre-K–2nd grade classroom.

  • High Scope preschool curriculum knowledge preferred.

  • Must meet applicable childcare licensing requirements.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

  • Ability to lift/carry approximately 40 pounds.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
