Job Description
Lead Teacher – Early Childhood Learning Center
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:15 a.m.–5:15 p.m.
Pay Rate: $25.96/hr
Job Type: Temporary; Full-Time
Position Summary:
The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing classroom programs in accordance with the college’s policies and philosophy. The position reports to the Site Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom programs and curriculum.
Support children’s individual needs, interests, learning styles and development.
Provide daily small- and large-group experiences and outdoor learning activities.
Maintain a positive, organized indoor and outdoor learning environment.
Work with the teaching team and Associate Teacher.
Communicate with parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required.
Complete developmental observations, screenings, assessments and other required records.
Develop a monthly newsletter.
Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development and college events.
Maintain confidentiality of children, parents and staff.
Follow applicable licensing, grant and NAEYC requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Early Childhood (ZA or ZS) endorsement; or
Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a valid CDA credential; or
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education with a preschool teaching specialization, or within three semesters of completing the degree.
One year of experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility.
Successful student fieldwork/student teaching experience at a nationally accredited early childhood education center or Pre-K–2nd grade classroom.
High Scope preschool curriculum knowledge preferred.
Must meet applicable childcare licensing requirements.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to lift/carry approximately 40 pounds.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
