Environmental Specialist (Tennessee Valley Authority)

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a Tier 1 vendor for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and we are recruiting for an entry-level, Watershed Representative, to contribute to the environmental responsibilities in each of the following office locations.

• KNOXVILLE, TN
• MURPHY, NC
• GRAY, TN
• PARIS, TN
• MUSCLE SHOALS, AL
• GUNTERSVILLE, AL

W2 Pay Rate: $23.75/hour (time and a half for overtime)

Target Start Date: 10/05/26

Duration: 6-12 month contract assignment

Position Summary:

This contract position will be focused on issuing Section 26a permits on TVA reservoirs with an emphasis on project management, time management, customer service, and completing NEPA/environmental reviews.

Section 26a requires that TVA’s approval be obtained prior to the construction, operation, or maintenance of any dam, appurtenant works, or other obstruction affecting navigation, flood control, or public lands or reservations along or in the Tennessee River or any of its tributaries.

Responsibilities:

• TRAINING POSITION WITH DEVELOPMENTAL ASSIGNMENTS MADE TO FAMILIARIZE A BROAD RANGE OF PERMITTING OPERATIONS.
• • PROCESS APPLICATIONS FOR SECTION 26A APPROVALS.
  • FIELD WORK WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH EACH APPLICATION.
• COMPLETE NEPA/ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW FOR EACH PROJECT.
• EVALUATE SHORELINE MANAGEMENT REQUESTS SEEKING ALIGNMENT WITH WATERSHED IMPROVEMENT, CONSERVATION, AND PROTECTION OF NATURAL RESOURCES, AND CULTURAL PROTECTION GOALS.
• SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF SHORELINE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS THROUGH RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND RECREATIONAL PROJECTS.
• WITH INCREASING EXPERIENCE, DUTIES WILL EXPAND TO ENCOMPASS MORE COMPLEX PROJECTS IN THE PERMITTING PROGRAM.

Education / Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Forestry, Ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, GIS, or related field is required.
• Recent graduate or 1-3 years of experience in designated field of knowledge.
• NOTE: A bachelor’s degree is required as past positions have been intended for conversion to permanent employment.
