Yard Jockey / Yard Driver – Job Description

The Yard Jockey is responsible for safely moving trailers and containers around the warehouse yard, positioning them at designated dock doors, and helping maintain an organized and efficient yard operation.

Key Duties:

• Move trailers and containers between dock doors, staging areas, and designated yard locations.
• Safely back trailers into dock doors and position them for loading and unloading.
• Perform yard checks to ensure trailers are properly located and organized.
• Communicate with warehouse and dock personnel regarding trailer movements.
• Connect and disconnect trailers as needed.
• Inspect equipment and trailers for visible damage or safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer locations and movements when required.
• Follow all company safety procedures and yard traffic rules.
• Keep the yard organized and help ensure trailers are available when needed.
• Perform other general yard duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Previous Yard Jockey, Yard Driver, Hostler, or similar experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to safely operate a yard truck/hostler.
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
• Must follow all safety procedures and company policies.
