Job Title: Assistant Teacher Early Childhood Learning Center

Schedule: Monday Thursday, 7:15 AM 5:15 PM

Pay Rate: $16.00 / hour

Role Overview:

The Assistant Teacher plans and implements developmentally appropriate programs for children in alignment with the philosophy and policies of the college's Child Development Center. Reporting to the Site Director, this role uses a team-teaching approach to support individual learning needs, manage classroom operations, and engage families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum & Instruction: Implement daily small/large group experiences, HighScope curriculum, and outdoor learning tailored to individual learning styles, backgrounds, and special needs.

  • Classroom Management: Maintain a clean, ordered indoor/outdoor learning environment, care for equipment, and share housekeeping duties.

  • Assessment & Compliance: Perform child evaluations using the HighScope Child Observation Record (COR), maintain records (assessments, IEPs), and adhere to state licensing, NAEYC, and CACFP standards.

  • Family & Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with families, draft monthly newsletters, assist with parent workshops, and conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits.

  • Professional Expectations: Attend staff meetings, trainings, and college events while maintaining strict confidentiality and following the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in Child Development / Early Childhood Education, or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

  • 1 year of experience in a licensed childcare facility (preferred).

  • Successful completion of student fieldwork at a nationally accredited early childhood center.

  • Knowledge of the HighScope preschool curriculum preferred.

  • Must meet state Licensing Standards for health and staffing.

  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.

  • Reliable personal transportation for required home visits, errands, and center needs.
