Job Description

This on-call cook position offers the opportunity to work up to full-time hours while preparing high-quality meals in a safe, efficient, and well-organized kitchen environment. The role focuses on consistent food preparation, adherence to food safety standards, and supporting the kitchen team during busy service periods. Candidates with flexible, open availability are strongly preferred, as hours may vary based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present meals according to established recipes and menu specifications.
• Ensure food quality, consistency, and portion control standards are maintained for every dish.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with guidelines and training.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment throughout each shift.
• Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to meet health and safety standards.
• Monitor food inventory levels and promptly notify leadership when supplies need replenishing.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food products to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
• Support kitchen team members during peak service periods to ensure smooth and timely operations.
• Work in various foodservice functions as needed, including food preparation, line cooking, dishwashing, and general cleaning tasks.
• Complete assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner while meeting quality expectations.

Essential Skills

• Previous cooking or kitchen experience in a foodservice environment.
• Ability to follow recipes accurately and prepare meals in a timely manner.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices and willingness to follow all procedures.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely.
• Dependability and readiness to work varying hours based on operational needs.
• Open availability strongly preferred, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in food prep, line cooking, dishwashing, and general kitchen cleaning.
• Comfort working with a variety of kitchen equipment and tools.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a kitchen team.
• Willingness to take on additional hours when offered based on business demands.

Work Environment

This role is based in a professional kitchen setting where foodservice, food preparation, line cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning tasks are part of daily operations. You will work with standard commercial kitchen equipment and follow strict food safety and sanitation procedures. The position is on-call, with up to 40 hours per week available and schedules that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on business needs. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, requiring extended periods of standing and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds while maintaining a clean, orderly workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maryville, MO.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
