Job Description
Robert Half is looking for an experienced Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join a county legal office in Nebraska on a contract basis. This opportunity is well suited to someone who thrives in a small, team-oriented setting while managing work independently and adapting to a range of legal support needs. The role supports a diverse caseload that includes juvenile, misdemeanor, and other criminal matters, with close partnership across the legal team to keep cases organized, prepared, and moving forward. This position is part-time between 20-30 hours per week and is onsite.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and submit court documents for Nebraska filings with accuracy and attention to required deadlines.
• Support the progression of active legal matters by maintaining organized case records across juvenile, misdemeanor, and other criminal dockets.
• Draft routine legal materials such as motions, letters, and supporting documentation for attorney review.
• Perform legal research assignments and summarize findings to assist case strategy and preparation.
• Review incoming discovery materials, sort relevant information, and help structure documents for efficient case use.
• Assemble and maintain case files, exhibits, and court-related records so materials are accessible and up to date.
• Coordinate hearing and appearance preparation by gathering documents, tracking needs, and assisting the attorney ahead of proceedings.
• Monitor key dates and follow up on pending tasks to help ensure filings and case activities are completed on time.
• Work closely with the County Attorney and support staff while contributing administrative and legal assistance wherever needed in a small office environment.
• Prior paralegal or legal assistant experience supporting litigation or prosecutorial matters.• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a collaborative office setting.
• Familiarity with court filings, legal document preparation, and deadline management.
• Experience handling discovery materials and maintaining organized case documentation.
• Strong research, writing, and administrative support skills in a legal environment.
• Comfort supporting multiple case types and shifting priorities throughout the workday.
• Exposure to criminal law, juvenile matters, or government legal offices is preferred.
• Proficiency with case management software and general litigation support tools.
