Job Description
The Grocery Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while operating a cash register, processing customer transactions, and maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked store environment. Key duties include operating the point-of-sale (POS) system and handling cash, checks, and bankcard payments; calculating discounts; verifying identification when required; issuing receipts; balancing cash drawers; and documenting discrepancies. The Grocery Clerk stocks and rotates merchandise and produce, ensures products are displayed neatly and that produce remains fresh, assists customers in locating items, promotes brands and products to increase sales, and helps maintain store cleanliness. The role requires adherence to Laguna Development Corporation (LDC) Core Values, policies, and procedures, maintaining a positive and respectful attitude toward customers and coworkers, providing fast, friendly, and courteous service, following health and safety regulations, working various shifts including weekends and holidays, assisting with training new Grocery Clerks, and performing other duties as assigned.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, with a high school diploma or GED and relevant work experience preferred. Previous cashiering and custodial experience are also preferred. Employees must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification and be proficient in using a cash register and basic computer applications. The position requires strong organizational, planning, decision-making, reading, and writing skills, as well as the physical ability to balance, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, stand, walk, turn, twist, talk, hear, and repetitively use hands for most of the workday. The role also requires the ability to push, pull, carry, lift, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. There are no supervisory responsibilities, and the work is performed primarily indoors with some exposure to cold temperatures. Additional employment requirements include successfully passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening as well as a background check.
