DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role supports forest maintenance and wildfire protection throughout the Sproul Forest District. You will help care for roads, trails, facilities, and forest boundaries while assisting with conservation and fire safety tasks. As a Forest Maintenance Worker, you will perform the following duties:
- Road Maintenance: Clear culverts, remove debris, clean side ditches, and help maintain forest roadways
- Regeneration Work: Plant trees, maintain deer fences, operate tractors, and support tree planting projects
- Trail Care: Use snowmobiles, ATVs, chainsaws, and hand tools to groom trails and clear brush
- Facility Upkeep: Perform painting, roofing, concrete work, and general building maintenance
- Sign Preparation: Operate woodworking tools to build and maintain wooden signs and entrance markers
- Fire Protection: Maintain wildfire tools, reduce fire hazards, assist with fire suppression, and communicate with district personnel

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
- Work hours will be between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM Monday - Friday. Specifics about work schedules, including the possibility of an alternate work schedule, will be discussed during the interview.
- Overtime may be required for wildfire response and suppression or other emergencies such as search and rescue response.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
