DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services to consumers in accordance with County, departmental, and applicable Commonwealth of Pennsylvania policies and procedures. Success relies on strong communication skills, patience, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while providing dependable transportation and social support to consumers. As a Van Driver, you will perform the following duties:


  • Safe Driving: Operate a county vehicle averaging approximately 150 miles per day while transporting senior adults and wheelchair-dependent individuals
  • Door-to-Door Service: Assist consumers with boarding, exiting, and navigating uneven or unpaved pathways while ensuring their safety, dignity, and comfort
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with consumers, dispatch, and agency staff through person-to-person interaction and two-way radio operation
  • Record Keeping: Utilize electronic tablets and other approved technology to access schedules, document transportation services, and complete required program records


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, 14-21+ hours per week.
  • Transportation operates 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturdays
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of employment which required operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.


Condition of Employment:

  • No suspension of driver's license within the last three years.


Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
