The Civil Engineer (Transportation) position with the Department of Transportation offers the chance to support important roadway projects across District 9. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports roadway design, right-of-way development, and survey-based engineering review for District 9 projects. The role applies engineering practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and safe project development. As a Civil Engineer (Transportation), you will perform the following duties:
- Roadway Alignment: Develop roadway alignments using engineering software and apply geometric design standards
- Plan Reviews: Review LGTS submissions to confirm roadway geometry, drainage, and guiderail accuracy
- Right-of-Way Checks: Verify plots, easements, and limits to ensure plans meet design policies and boundaries
- Property Analysis: Analyze deed descriptions and verify property line accuracy in CADD systems
- Proposal Evaluation: Evaluate consultant technical and price proposals for survey-related work and recommend actions
- Constructability Review: Identify early design or drainage issues to prevent project delays and improve outcomes

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
- Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
