Driver License Examiner - Lawndale

THE POSITION

As a Driver License Examiner with the Department of Transportation, you will help ensure every driver is ready for the road. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports safe and effective licensing by evaluating driver skills and reviewing all necessary documentation. It involves working directly with applicants to ensure compliance with laws and established standards. As a Driver License Examiner, you will perform the following duties:

• Skill Evaluation: Conduct standardized driving examinations to assess applicant competence and safety awareness
• Applicant Review: Determine physical qualifications, review documents, and check vehicles for required mechanical conditions
• Knowledge Testing: Administer written and vision exams and evaluate applicant understanding of motor vehicle laws and traffic signs
• Fraud Prevention: Examine applications and registrations for irregularities and ensure accuracy in processing
• Customer Service: Follow all Safety Administration policies to provide courteous and consistent service

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
• Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Overtime and travel as needed
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
• This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
• All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
