Manager / Cake Decorator - Now Hiring

Pay: $20.00 to $26.00 per hour base, plus tips averaging $3 to $6 per hour, for an estimated total of $23 to $32 per hour. Base pay is guaranteed and tips are an estimate. A salaried equivalent is available for full-time. Work location: in person.

About the role

We are hiring a Store Manager who is also a hands-on, expert cake decorator. This is a dual role and both halves matter equally. You will run the day to day operations of the store, lead the team, and personally execute and oversee our cake decorating. We need someone who can manage people and logistics and also deliver high quality custom cakes. Not one or the other. Both.

This position has two hard requirements. You must have both to be considered. If you only have one of them, please do not apply.

First, 5 to 10 years of professional, commercial cake decorating experience. Professional and commercial means paid work as a decorator in a real store environment: a retail bakery, grocery store bakery, dedicated cake shop, supermarket, hotel, or other high volume operation. Home based or kitchen table decorating, hobby work, self-taught experience, and running your own cake business on its own do not count toward this requirement. You must have verifiable paid experience decorating inside a commercial store, and we will check references with those employers.

Second, proven employee management and logistics experience. You have supervised staff, built and managed schedules, controlled inventory and ordering, and kept a production operation running on time.

Cake decorating duties, hands-on every week:

Decorate cakes to company standards and to each customer's request

Create a full range of designs: custom, standard builds, writing on cakes, borders, flowers, themed cakes, and display cakes

Take and process cake orders by phone, online, and in person

Prepare icing, stock supplies, and keep the decorating station clean and ready

Stack, box, and properly store finished cakes

Maintain product displays to quality and merchandising standards

Store management and logistics duties:

Supervise, schedule, and coach store staff, and manage labor hours to budget

Train decorators and team members on decorating and service standards

Manage cake, icing, and store inventory, including ordering and vendor coordination

Run the order pipeline and production flow so every pickup hits its deadline

Open and close the store, and handle cash and POS reconciliation

Keep the store compliant with health code and food safety rules, and pass inspections

Hit sales, quality, and customer satisfaction targets

Resolve customer issues and handle custom order consultations professionally

Requirements

Able to demonstrate your decorating live during the interview

A portfolio of your past commercial cake work to show at the interview

ServSafe Manager certification, or willingness to obtain it, plus any Baltimore County or Baltimore City food handler requirements

Reliable, consistent, and professional, with strong communication skills

Available to work weekends, holidays, and peak seasons such as graduations, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and holiday rushes

Able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, do fine detail hand work, and work in cold prep areas

Nice to have: Baskin-Robbins or other franchise experience, experience with POS and inventory or scheduling software, bilingual.

Schedule: flexible, part-time or full-time. Decorating hours do not necessarily have to fall during normal store hours, but reliability and consistency are essential.
