Special Education Teacher in Providence, RI

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of high school students by stepping into a contract role focused on supporting learners with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) and significant behavioral challenges. You’ll work in a specialized classroom environment designed to foster safety, growth, and individualized success, with an assignment running through the end of the 2026-2027 school year.

Key Candidate Qualifications:

• Active Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license valid for secondary education
• Demonstrated ability to provide targeted support to students in self-contained or sub-separate settings, particularly those with EBD or intense behavioral needs
• Compliance with the Right to Read Act by being certified in—or committing to complete—Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency within the first year of employment
• Strong collaborative skills for coordinating with general education staff, service providers, and support personnel
• Experience with the development and execution of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), progress monitoring, and behavioral intervention strategies

What You’ll Do:

• Provide individualized academic instruction and behavioral support to high school students in a self-contained classroom
• Develop and implement IEPs, adapting lessons and interventions to meet diverse learning needs
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic support for each student
• Maintain regular communication with families regarding student growth and challenges
• Implement evidence-based strategies to manage behaviors and cultivate a positive, structured classroom community

This is a 35-hour per week contract position beginning as soon as possible and continuing through June 18, 2027, providing ample opportunity to form lasting connections and create transformative change for your students.
