Job Description
Support an engaging elementary classroom by facilitating communication for a motivated 5th-grade student as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time contract role spans the school year, from September 10, 2026, through May 26, 2027, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact in a supportive educational environment.
In this position, you’ll serve as a dedicated 1:1 interpreter, working closely with a student in a general education setting. Your expertise will empower the student to access the curriculum, interact with peers, and fully participate in school life.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Current GaPSC Sign Language Interpreter Educator Certification (required)
- Ability to complete and clear district fingerprinting/background check
- Previous experience as a sign language interpreter within a school setting (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language and comprehensive interpreting skills
- Professionalism, reliability, and a passion for fostering inclusive education
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction and dialogue in real-time, ensuring clear communication between the student, teachers, and classmates
- Facilitate participation in both academic and social activities throughout the school day
- Collaborate with education staff to adapt communication strategies to meet individual student needs
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines for interpreters
- Arrive promptly for a 7:30 a.m. start, working until 2:30 p.m. each school day
