Wastewater Treatment - Aerospace Parts Manufacturing

Primary Purpose:

The Wastewater Treatment/Environmental Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties related to environmental surveillance to the Selmet facility and surrounding areas. Incumbents will participate in preventive action to protect the environment and ensure compliance to specified environmental programs including wastewater, hazardous waste management, and spill cleanup.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily system inspections and routine water quality checks
  • Operate neutralization wastewater treatment system with clarifier, flocculant tank, and  filter press.
  • Routinely performs equipment take down and maintenance.
  • Recognize safety/process/quality problems and assist with diagnosis and corrective actions.
  • Provide both internal and external customer support in support of operating departments related to effluent management and discharge, hazardous waste, and spill response.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous and other waste regulations.
  • Routinely oversees the safe loading and unloading of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Transport hazardous and non-hazardous materials via forklift.
  • Routinely performs hazardous waste inspections and shipments, and ensure compliance to hazardous waste regulations.
  • Other duties as directed by department manager


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work around hazardous chemicals and have a clear understanding of chemical aspects and impact. 
  • Assist in response and clean-up of hazardous material spills or incidents.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member using critical thinking skills to troubleshoot equipment upsets and take corrective action.
  • Plan, organize, and control multiple activities simultaneously with the ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances and environments.
  • Apply regulations with training, and/or written technical information.
  • Interact effectively with employees and agency representatives.
  • Perform the job safely adhering to all safety training.
  • Good reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Work outside daily in varying weather conditions.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate a forklift.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • 18+ years of age. 
  • Undergo a pre-employment background check.

Preferred

  • Experience in an industrial waste treatment plant, chemical handling, or maintenance department.


Schedule and Premium:

  • Swing Shift, Monday-Thursday - 3:00 pm - 1:30 am (Shift Premiums $1.00)
