Health Information Technician – Corrections Facility
Location: Marysville, OH
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexible hours to work 8 hours per day
Work Setting: On-site
Pay Rate: $17.00
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Health Information Technician to support medical records and administrative operations within a corrections facility. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate health information, preparing and organizing medical records, completing reports, and supporting the retrieval and appropriate release of health information.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, catalog, and verify medical reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Organize medical reports and ensure records are properly maintained in patient files.
- Review charts to verify that all required reports, documentation, and signatures are present.
- Type health information forms and prepare medical charts for new admissions.
- Complete required forms and maintain accurate health information documentation.
- Compile and prepare statistical reports, including daily and monthly census, Medicaid days, admissions, discharges, and length-of-stay information.
- File reports and documentation into health information records.
- Maintain logs and retrieve medical records from the filing system as needed.
- Review requests for health information and determine whether the request is appropriate before releasing information.
- Coordinate health information procedures with other departments.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable medical records requirements and facility procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Recent administrative experience in a medical office required.
- Computer literate with the ability to use electronic systems and standard office software.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and health information processes.
- Knowledge of regulations and requirements governing medical records.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive health information.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple administrative responsibilities.
- Must be comfortable with extensive walking throughout the facility.
- Must be able to work on-site in a corrections facility.
Required Credentials & Documentation
- Ohio Medical License, as applicable.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Valid U.S. Passport or Naturalization Card, if applicable.
- Resume.
- Cover letter.
- Successful completion of required drug screening within 48 hours of acceptance.
- Must successfully comply with facility security procedures, including metal detector clearance.
- Cell phones are not permitted until the required paperwork has been submitted and approved.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM
Flexible scheduling is available within this timeframe, with an expectation of working 8 hours per day.
Work Environment: On-site corrections facility; position involves extensive walking and adherence to strict facility security procedures.
