We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to join our plastics manufacturing team. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for inspecting and testing incoming materials, in-process production, and finished plastic products to ensure they meet established specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards.

This position works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to monitor manufacturing processes, identify defects and process variations, troubleshoot quality issues, and support continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and balancing hands-on inspection and testing with accurate documentation and communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Production Quality Control: Perform inspections and quality checks throughout the manufacturing process to verify that products meet dimensional, visual, functional, and material specifications.
• In-Process Inspection: Monitor production runs and perform inspections at established intervals. Identify defects, variations, or process conditions that may affect product quality.
• Finished Product Inspection: Inspect and test finished products prior to release to ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings, work instructions, and internal quality standards.
• Raw Material Verification: Inspect and test incoming resins, polymers, colorants, additives, and other production materials as required. Verify material identification, lot information, and applicable certifications.
• Dimensional Measurement: Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, and other precision measuring equipment to verify product dimensions and tolerances.
• Material & Product Testing: Perform applicable physical, mechanical, and performance tests on plastics, components, and finished products using established procedures and industry-standard test methods.
• Production Support & Troubleshooting: Work directly with machine operators, supervisors, and production personnel to identify the source of quality problems and assist with corrective adjustments to the manufacturing process.
• Defect Identification: Identify and document issues such as dimensional variation, warpage, flash, short shots, sink marks, discoloration, contamination, surface defects, material inconsistencies, and other product nonconformities.
• Nonconformance Control: Identify, segregate, and document nonconforming material or product. Assist with investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and disposition activities.
• First-Piece & Setup Inspections: Perform first-piece, setup, and changeover inspections to verify that production equipment and processes are producing acceptable product before full production continues.
• Process Monitoring: Monitor quality trends and production data to identify recurring issues, process variation, and opportunities for improvement.
• Product Release: Complete required inspections and testing to support the release of finished products and ensure required quality records are complete.
• Documentation: Accurately record inspection results, measurements, test data, material information, nonconformances, and other quality-related information.
• Equipment & Calibration: Operate, maintain, and perform routine checks on inspection and testing equipment. Ensure measuring equipment is properly maintained and calibrated according to company requirements.
• Standards & Procedures: Follow company quality procedures, work instructions, customer specifications, drawings, and applicable ASTM, ISO, and other industry standards.
• Safety & Housekeeping: Follow all plant safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly handle materials, samples, testing equipment, and production waste.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Communicate quality issues promptly and effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and management.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, process investigations, corrective actions, and efforts to reduce scrap, rework, defects, and customer complaints.
  
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in manufacturing, quality control, inspection, or production support, preferably in plastics or a related manufacturing industry.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality-control principles, and production environments.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, product specifications, dimensions, tolerances, work instructions, and inspection procedures.
• Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, and other inspection equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual, dimensional, and functional defects.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand basic manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Ability to perform inspections and testing accurately while working within production schedules.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to recognize process variation and determine when production conditions may be affecting product quality.
• Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with machine operators, production supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding product quality within established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in plastics manufacturing, including injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming, or related processes.
• Experience with polymer/resin materials and plastic product manufacturing.
• Previous experience as a Quality Control Technician, Quality Technician, Manufacturing Technician, Process Technician, or Inspector.
• Experience with first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
• Experience with nonconforming material, corrective actions, root-cause analysis, and quality investigations.
• Familiarity with ASTM testing methods commonly used for plastics and polymer products.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Experience using inspection equipment and precision measurement tools.
• Experience working with ERP, manufacturing, quality-management, or inspection data systems.
• Basic knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality data analysis.
• Experience supporting production startups, machine setups, changeovers, and process troubleshooting.
