Occupational Therapist (OT) – Acute Care
NuWest Healthcare is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) for a 13-week travel assignment at a nonprofit, community-focused hospital in Columbus, Nebraska. This is a day-shift opportunity to provide patient-centered occupational therapy services in a supportive acute-care environment.
Assignment Details
- Position: Occupational Therapist (OT)
- Location: Columbus, Nebraska
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: November 30, 2026
- Shift: 8-hour Days
- Charting System: Paragon
- Charting Device: iPad provided by the facility
- Call-Off Policy: Facility may call off travelers for up to 3 shifts during the 13-week assignment without penalty
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients to assess functional abilities, limitations, and occupational therapy needs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and clinical needs.
- Provide therapeutic interventions to improve strength, mobility, coordination, independence, and activities of daily living.
- Assist patients with adapting to physical, cognitive, or functional limitations.
- Recommend and educate patients on adaptive equipment, techniques, and strategies to support independence.
- Monitor and document patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment plans, home programs, safety, and continued care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Follow facility policies, infection prevention practices, and patient safety standards.
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Qualifications
- Current Occupational Therapist license in Nebraska or eligibility through a compact state, as applicable.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Previous professional occupational therapy experience required; new graduates will not be considered.
- Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and current automobile insurance.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
