THE POSITION

Are you seeking an administrative position that supports fair decision-making? As a Legal Assistant 1 with the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals, you will be a part of a team that helps move important legal work forward. This role allows you to support key steps in the appeal process that impact individuals across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. You will use your skills to review information, organize documents, and assist legal staff. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the legal review and processing of appeals for the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals. The role centers on reviewing information, preparing documents, and ensuring deadlines and procedures are followed. As a Legal Assistant 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Appeal Review: Examine appeals and apply procedural regulations to determine compliance
  • Deadline Tracking: Monitor due dates, adjust deadlines when needed, and prioritize tasks to keep appeals moving
  • Scheduling Duties: Arrange hearings, send notices, and enter case information into required systems
  • Document Preparation: Create subpoenas, orders, and other legal documents for judge review and signature
  • Correspondence Handling: Review incoming legal mail, forward information to proper parties, and upload items to case files
  • Case Coordination: Serve as a link between judges, appellants, and representatives while safeguarding confidential information

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of your probationary period and training period. Your work assignments will primarily take place in the office. However, telework may be available based upon individual eligibility and the operational needs of the bureau. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.   • Salary: The starting salary is non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
