DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides nursing care and treatment to individuals with physical or mental health needs at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy. The role supports secure, effective patient care across daily and emergency situations.

As a Registered Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Care Delivery: Check vital signs, administer medications, perform treatments, and assist with examinations
• Health Assessment: Evaluate patient needs, provide education, and support daily living and hygiene activities
• Emergency Response: Perform assessments, provide first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or automated external defibrillator (AED), and refer patients for further care
• Record Management: Document care, maintain medical records, prepare reports, and track controlled substances
• Supply Maintenance: Sterilize equipment, monitor inventory, and maintain adequate treatment supplies
• Skill Development: Participate in training programs and maintain knowledge of policy and procedure updates

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM)
  • Your work schedule is to be determined.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $89,882.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
