DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on reviewing Highway Occupancy Permits, conducting field inspections, and ensuring that permit activities follow department standards. You will work with engineers, companies, and the public while helping keep transportation projects safe and compliant. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Permit Reviews: Review assigned permit applications and field conditions for accuracy and compliance with department regulations
- Field Coordination: Coordinate with engineers and other units to confirm drainage, safety, geometric design, and construction requirements
- Project Support: Gather existing roadway conditions and assist with documentation for major permit projects such as utility installations
- Research Duties: Research existing permits to verify that current site conditions match approved permit information
- Compliance Actions: Report non compliant field conditions and issue citations or warning letters to permit offenders as required
- Material Testing: Collect and test construction materials to ensure they meet contract standards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Work overtime as necessary per work assignment
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
