Job Description
Tax Manager - CPA Firm (Public Accounting)
A 50-year-old New York CPA and advisory firm is hiring a Tax Manager at $140,000-$210,000 - with direct access to senior leadership, a named path to Partner, and a hybrid schedule out of Midtown Manhattan or Long Island.
What you will do
- Own a diversified portfolio of business and individual clients across real estate, private equity, and retail, serving as their primary tax advisor year-round
- Review and approve complex federal, state, and local filings: Partnerships (Form 1065), S-Corps (Form 1120-S), C-Corps (Form 1120), and High-Net-Worth Individuals (Form 1040)
- Supervise and mentor Senior Associates and Associates through structured, actionable feedback tied to their career milestones
- Conduct technical tax research on compliance issues, transaction structuring, and restructuring opportunities
- Represent clients and the firm directly with tax authorities to resolve multi-jurisdiction disputes
- Contribute to firm strategy and help shape internal training programs alongside a leadership team that promotes from within
What you need
- Active CPA license - or all sections passed with licensure pending
- Substantial public accounting experience with strong command of entity taxation (partnerships, S-corps, C-corps) and individual compliance
- Demonstrated history of managing client engagements and supervising staff inside a public accounting firm
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills for direct client and partner-level interaction
Nice to have
- Industry experience in real estate, private equity, or retail
- Exposure to tax restructuring or transaction advisory work
- Track record of mentoring junior staff and building team capability
Pay and benefits
- Base salary: $140,000 - $210,000 per year, scaled to experience and book of business
- Hybrid schedule (2-3 days in-office per week, balance remote)
- Defined Partner-track with genuine upward mobility - most current partners started here as staff
- Continuous in-house training and structured mentorship
- Immediate involvement in high-level advisory work and firm strategy
- Accessible, collaborative leadership with low bureaucracy
Location and schedule
- Midtown Manhattan (near Penn Station), New York, NY - or Jericho, NY (Long Island)
- Work model: Hybrid - 2-3 days per week in-office at one of the two locations
- Employment type: Full-time
- Candidates must be commutable to at least one office location
About and how to apply
This mid-sized firm has built a sophisticated client base over 50 years and consistently promotes from within - leadership is earned here, not hired laterally. If you have a strong public accounting foundation and are ready for a real management role with a visible path forward, we want to hear from you.
