Job Description
Cummins Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. is seeking an experienced office professional for a rewarding career as Referral Engagement Coordinator to provide services at our office located in Avon, IN.
- Referral Intake and Monitoring: Monitor designated referral inboxes regularly, triage incoming communications, track and respond to time-sensitive referral requirements
- Referral Review and Determination: Determine referral acceptability and collaborate with clinical leaders when needed
- Referral Acceptance and Documentation: Accurately document referral decisions, enter appropriate data in electronic health record including authorizations
- Chart set up and data management: Ensure consumer charts have updated demographic and payer information
- Outreach and Engagement Coordination: Make timely outreach to referred individuals and document all outreach attempts appropriately, ensure referred individuals are provided with appropriate same day access information
- Provider and Stakeholder Coordination: Communicate with referral sources to provide updates on referral status and request updated referrals as needed
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all referral processes adhere to required timelines and documentation standards
- Ongoing case Monitoring and Closure: Monitor referral progression through engagement and ensure proper case closure when appropriate
- High School diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred (behavioral health, social work, or related field)
- Experience in healthcare intake, care coordination, or behavioral health is preferred
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems preferred
- Prior experience with DCS, juvenile justice, or community-based services is a plus
- Organizational and Workflow Management: Ability to efficiently manage high-volume referral workflows by prioritizing tasks, maintaining oversight of competing demands, and ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Critical Thinking and Decision Making: Ability to evaluate referral information using knowledge of service eligibility, risk factors, and program capacity to make sound, timely acceptance or denial decisions.
- Communication and Collaboration: Ability to clearly and professionally exchange information, coordinate with internal teams and external partners, and facilitate problem-solving to support service access.
- Attention to Detail and Documentation Accuracy: Ability to apply knowledge of documentation standards and systems to ensure precise data entry, identify discrepancies, and maintain complete, compliant records.
- Behavioral Health Systems Knowledge: Ability to apply understanding of behavioral health services, referral pathways, and care coordination processes to support appropriate service alignment and access.
- Adaptability and Priority Management: Ability to remain effective in a fast-paced environment by adjusting to shifting priorities, managing deadlines, and sustaining productivity under pressure.
