Job Title: Java/Scala Developer
Location: NYC - 3-4 days a week onsite
Length: 6-10 months

Position Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Java/Scala Developer with a deep specialization in high-throughput trading platforms. You will be responsible for designing and scaling microservices that power our real-time execution algorithms, ensuring ultra-low latency, high availability, and strict adherence to risk and regulatory controls.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Architecture & Development: Lead the design and implementation of distributed microservices using Java/Spring Boot tailored for high-frequency trading environments.
Algorithm Engineering: Collaborate with Quants and Product Managers to translate complex execution strategies into performant, production-ready code.
Performance Optimization: Conduct deep-dive performance tuning, GC optimization, and memory management to maintain sub-millisecond execution speeds.
Platform Governance: Design and enforce 'Safe Trading' protocols, including pre-trade risk checks and automated circuit breakers within the microservices mesh.
 

Domain Requirements:

Trading Lifecycle: Deep understanding of the full trade lifecycle (Order Management, Execution, Clearing, and Settlement).
Execution Algorithms: Proven track record ofbuilding or maintaining algorithmic engines and SOR (Smart Order Routing) systems.
Market Dynamics: Understanding of market data structures (L1/L2/L3 books) and regulatory requirements (MiFID II, SEC Rule 606).
 

Technical Qualifications:

Java Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in Core Java(v17+ preferred), including advanced multi-threading, concurrency patterns, and the JavaMemory Model.
Scala Expertise: Hands-on production experience with Scala, including functional programming patterns, immutability, and use of Scala within JVM-based trading systems (e.g., Akka, Play, or hybrid Java/Scala microservices).
Microservices Architecture: Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes). Familiarity with Service Mesh (Istio/Linkerd) is a plus.
Messaging & Integration: Hands-on experience with high-performance messaging middleware like Apache Kafka, Solace, or Aeron.
Data Systems: Proficiency in low-latency data stores (Redis, Hazelcast) and SQL/NoSQL databases for trade persistence and auditing.
Testing & CI/CD: Commitment to TDD/BDD practices and automated pipeline integration (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
