Red Hat STIG Consultant

Location: Columbus, Mississippi (MS) – Onsite

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Red Hat STIG Consultant to provide short-term consulting services supporting the security hardening and compliance configuration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.

The consultant will be responsible for implementing Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements on deployed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 servers within a secure government environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux administration, DISA STIG compliance, system hardening, and vulnerability remediation.

Job Summary

The selected consultant will support the STIG hardening of two deployed Dell R660 servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6.

The environment includes an existing data protection and management platform, and the customer will provide the applicable STIG package and compliance requirements.

The consultant will work onsite to assess the current system configuration, implement required security controls, remediate identified findings, and validate compliance with applicable Red Hat and DoD security standards.

Key Responsibilities Red Hat Linux Administration and Hardening
  • Perform security hardening activities on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 servers.
  • Review existing system configurations against applicable DISA STIG requirements.
  • Implement required security controls and configuration changes.
  • Configure operating system security settings in accordance with government compliance standards.
  • Apply appropriate authentication, access control, password, auditing, and logging configurations.
  • Disable unnecessary services, ports, protocols, and system components as required by STIG guidelines.
  • Ensure secure configuration of network services and system-level security policies.
STIG Compliance and Assessment
  • Analyze and interpret Red Hat Enterprise Linux STIG documentation and customer-provided compliance packages.
  • Conduct system assessments to identify configuration gaps and vulnerabilities.
  • Remediate STIG findings and document completed security controls.
  • Validate system compliance following hardening activities.
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation related to STIG implementation and remediation.
  • Support compliance verification and security assessment activities.
Server Infrastructure Support
  • Perform hardening activities on Dell PowerEdge R660 server infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with infrastructure and systems administration teams as necessary.
  • Ensure system changes do not negatively impact existing applications or services.
  • Support troubleshooting of system issues resulting from configuration changes.
  • Maintain system stability and operational readiness throughout the engagement.
Required Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Strong knowledge of RHEL 9.x administration and security configuration.
  • Experience implementing DISA STIG requirements for Red Hat Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux security hardening methodologies and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience reviewing and remediating STIG findings.
  • Knowledge of Linux authentication, authorization, auditing, logging, and system security.
  • Ability to work independently in a secure government or DoD environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • Experience with DISA STIG Viewer and STIG compliance assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of SCAP, OpenSCAP, and automated compliance scanning.
  • Experience supporting classified or federal government environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity policies and RMF compliance processes.
  • Experience with Dell PowerEdge server platforms.
  • Knowledge of security auditing, vulnerability remediation, and system certification processes.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
