Senior HPC Field Engineer

Location: Smyrna, Georgia – Onsite

Duration: 3+ months

Position Overview

The Senior HPC Field Engineer will provide hands-on technical support for High Performance Computing (HPC) environments, working alongside customer IT teams to configure, manage, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize HPC infrastructure.

The role requires strong technical expertise in HPC systems, hardware and software validation, firmware management, performance benchmarking, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities HPC Configuration & Administration

• Configure, manage, and maintain HPC infrastructure.
• Support HPC hardware, software, networking, and system-management components.
• Validate HPC configuration against established technical requirements and best practices.
• Assist with system updates, maintenance, and optimization activities.
• Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to customer IT teams.

Hardware & Troubleshooting

• Diagnose and address HPC hardware failures.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and support tickets.
• Validate firmware versions, configurations, and system settings.
• Identify hardware or configuration issues that may affect system performance or availability.
• Coordinate corrective actions and document resolutions.

Software & Configuration Validation

• Validate HPC software versions and configuration settings.
• Review system configurations for consistency and compliance with recommended best practices.
• Assist with software updates and environment optimization.
• Identify configuration gaps and recommend improvements.

Documentation

• Develop and maintain System Installation Documentation (SID).
• Document infrastructure planning details, including:
  • Cabling
  • Equipment labeling
  • Switch configurations
  • Hardware layouts
  • System connectivity
• Maintain accurate configuration and operational documentation.
• Update technical documentation as the environment evolves.

Performance & Benchmark Testing

• Assist with HPC benchmark testing and performance validation.
• Support testing using industry-standard HPC benchmarks and workloads, including:
  • High Performance Linpack (HPL)
  • Alltoall
  • Bidirectional bandwidth testing
  • STREAM
• Analyze benchmark results and identify potential performance bottlenecks.
• Provide recommendations for system tuning and optimization.

Knowledge Transfer

• Provide extended knowledge transfer to customer technical teams.
• Share HPC administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance best practices.
• Assist customer personnel in developing the skills required to independently operate and maintain the HPC environment.
• Document repeatable operational procedures and troubleshooting processes.

Required Qualifications

• Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance, as required by the program.
• Strong hands-on experience with High Performance Computing environments.
• Experience configuring, managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting HPC infrastructure.
• Experience validating firmware and system configurations.
• Experience validating HPC software versions and settings.
• Strong understanding of HPC networking, hardware, and system architecture.
• Experience with HPC performance benchmarking and system validation.
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite and collaborate directly with customer IT teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise or government HPC environments.
• Experience with HPL, STREAM, Alltoall, and network-bandwidth benchmarking.
• Experience with HPC cluster deployment and lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of high-speed interconnect technologies and HPC networking.
• Experience with HPC performance tuning and optimization.
• Familiarity with data-center cabling, labeling, switch configuration, and infrastructure documentation.
• Previous experience providing technical knowledge transfer to customer engineering teams.
