Job Description
Marine Painters – Entry Level to Experienced
Location: Hampton Roads, VA
Pay: Based on experience, certifications, and demonstrated skill level
Schedule: Multiple shifts may be available
Tidewater Staffing is hiring Marine Painters with varying levels of experience for shipyard and industrial projects throughout Hampton Roads. We are seeking candidates with backgrounds ranging from surface-preparation assistance to advanced marine coatings application.
Experience May Include
- Preparing steel, aluminum, and other marine surfaces for coating
- Cleaning, sanding, grinding, scraping, or needle-gunning surfaces
- Power-tool and hand-tool surface preparation
- Abrasive blasting, sandblasting, or water blasting
- Mixing and applying marine and industrial coatings
- Brush-and-roll application
- Conventional or airless spray painting
- Applying primers, epoxies, urethanes, and protective coatings
- Stripe coating, touch-up work, and finish coating
- Measuring wet-film or dry-film thickness
- Identifying coating defects and completing required repairs
- Masking, containment setup, and maintaining clean work areas
- Following coating specifications, safety procedures, and quality standards
Qualifications
- Marine, shipyard, industrial, or commercial painting experience preferred
- Entry-level candidates with related surface-preparation experience may be considered
- Ability to use common painting and surface-preparation tools safely
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in changing weather conditions
- Ability to bend, climb, kneel, stand for extended periods, and lift required materials
- Must follow PPE, respiratory-protection, and shipyard safety requirements
- Must be dependable and able to work assigned shifts and overtime when required
Preferred Credentials and Experience
The following are a plus but may not be required for every opening:
- Current or previously held DBIDS credential
- TWIC card
- OSHA 10 Maritime
- C7, C10 and/or C12 certifications preferred, along with SSPC/AMPP, NACE, NBPI, or related
- Coatings inspection, quality-control, or Nondestructive Testing (NDT) training or certification
- Respirator fit-test eligibility
- Previous naval, commercial shipyard, or industrial coatings experience
Candidates should clearly list all current or previously held painting/coatings certifications, credentials, painting techniques, coating systems, and inspection or NDT experience on their résumé.
