Safety Manager

Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to provide overall Environmental, Health, and Safety leadership for an active construction project. This position will be responsible for overseeing the project's safety program, maintaining compliance with OSHA and company requirements, conducting inspections, and working directly with the General Contractor (GC) and project leadership.

The ideal candidate is a strong safety leader who can effectively communicate with management, field personnel, subcontractors, and the GC while ensuring that safety expectations are consistently implemented throughout the project.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall EHS leadership and direction for the project.
• Attend and participate in safety meetings with the General Contractor (GC), project management, and other project stakeholders.
• Serve as a primary EHS point of contact for the project and maintain professional communication with the GC.
• Conduct regular and comprehensive jobsite safety inspections and document findings.
• Monitor corrective actions and ensure identified safety concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, project-specific requirements, company policies, and GC safety requirements.
• Oversee the implementation and enforcement of the project's Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP).
• Review and monitor Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), permits, inspections, and other required safety documentation.
• Conduct and/or oversee incident investigations, near-miss investigations, and corrective action processes.
• Maintain accurate and organized EHS records, reports, inspections, and compliance documentation.
• Provide safety leadership, coaching, and guidance to field safety personnel and project management.
• Conduct or oversee safety training, toolbox talks, orientations, and other required safety meetings.
• Monitor field operations and work practices to identify hazards and prevent incidents.
• Work with supervisors and foremen to correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
• Assist project management with developing and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor environmental requirements and assist with compliance related to dust, housekeeping, waste, stormwater, and other project-specific environmental concerns.
• Ensure required safety documentation is completed and submitted accurately and on time.
• Support emergency preparedness and response procedures.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and lead by example.
• Perform other EHS duties as required by project and company leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• OSHA 30 Certification (Required)
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications (Required)
• One of the following:
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or
• Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressive construction safety experience, including experience in a safety leadership or management role.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and applicable safety regulations.
• Experience working directly with General Contractors and project management teams.
• Experience conducting jobsite inspections, safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving as an EHS Manager, Safety Director, or equivalent leadership position on large construction projects.
• Experience working on large-scale industrial, commercial, or infrastructure construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, environmental compliance, and construction safety requirements.
• Experience managing or mentoring field safety personnel.
• Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Ability to professionally communicate safety concerns and requirements to project management, GC representatives, supervisors, and field personnel.
• Ability to work independently, make sound safety decisions, and effectively manage competing priorities.
• Strong computer skills and experience maintaining safety documentation and reports.
