Operator 19+, Marshall NIGHT SHIFT

The Production Operator plays a key role in supporting battery cell manufacturing by unpackaging materials from automated guided vehicles (AGVs), loading components onto computerized conveyor systems, and ensuring a smooth, consistent flow of parts to the assembly area. This position involves repetitive, hands-on work with light assembly, quality inspection, and basic troubleshooting in a clean, climate-controlled production environment.

• Safely operate and monitor computerized automated conveyors in the battery material unpacking room, ensuring a consistent and reliable production flow.
• Receive battery cell components from automated guided vehicles (AGVs), unpackage parts, perform light assembly as needed, and place components onto the conveyor system before initiating the process.
• Feed raw materials such as aluminum cans, top caps, Mylar wrapping, connectors, and other components into the conveyor system according to established procedures.
• Repack parts from supplier-provided containers into production containers and load materials onto the automated conveyors in the correct orientation and sequence.
• Conduct thorough visual inspections on raw materials and components to verify they meet quality standards, identifying, isolating, and reporting any defects or nonconformities.
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and safety guidelines to maintain production consistency and a safe working environment.
• Perform basic troubleshooting on automated conveyors, recognizing abnormal conditions and reporting malfunctions or issues to maintenance personnel in a timely manner.
• Record production data accurately, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and promptly report any discrepancies or issues to supervisors.
• Collect and analyze basic process and product data, inspect products and processes, conduct simple tests, assist with research and development activities, and document results as directed.
• Assist with training new production operators by demonstrating tasks, explaining SOPs, and reinforcing safety and quality standards.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes and safety vests.
• Complete daily cleaning tasks and participate in 5S activities (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
• Use rotating tables and other ergonomic aids correctly to minimize bending and promote safe material handling.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow, share information about quality or equipment issues, and support continuous improvement.
• Perform all other tasks assigned by management that support production, quality, and safety objectives.

• At least one year of recent manufacturing experience in a repetitive setting such as assembly, packaging, or machine operation.
• Demonstrated stable work history, including at least two years of tenure in a prior role with strong references for reliability.
• Experience performing repetitive tasks in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining focus and accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to consistently maintain quality standards and identify defects.
• Basic computer literacy for data entry, monitoring production systems, and recording information.
• Ability to learn and work with automated equipment and new technology comfortably.
• Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and support training of new operators.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, and safety guidelines.
• High School Diploma, GED (General Education Development), or equivalent education.
• Minimum age of 18 years to comply with workplace and equipment safety requirements.

• Preferred: Three years of directly related work experience in troubleshooting or hands-on work within the automation or manufacturing industry.
• Preferred: Experience troubleshooting and operating automated machinery, conveyors, or similar production equipment.
• Background in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process improvement initiatives.
• Experience in production supervision or leadership is beneficial for supporting training and team coordination.
• Exposure to manufacturing operations, general labor, machine operation, packaging, and inspection activities.
• Strong supervisory or management skills are a plus for assisting with training and guiding peers.
• Understanding of quality principles and manufacturing quality standards.
• Comfort working with data collection, basic analysis, and recording test or inspection results.

This role is based in a large, modern battery manufacturing facility dedicated to producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for grid-scale energy storage and midsize electric trucks. The plant spans hundreds of acres and is designed to deliver high gigawatt-hour production capacity annually. Operators work in a clean, climate-controlled battery material unpacking room with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), computerized conveyor systems, rotating tables, and other ergonomic equipment. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and efficiency, with required use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes and safety vests. Access to the packing room may involve using stairs or an elevator. The work is hands-on and repetitive, with a strong focus on standardization and 5S practices to keep the area organized and safe. Schedules follow a structured 12-hour rotating shift pattern on a night schedule (approximately 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.), with crews alternating between three days on/four days off and four days on/three days off every two weeks, providing extended periods of time off while maintaining full-time hours. Initial training occurs on a weekday daytime schedule before transitioning to the regular shift rotation.

This is a Contract position based out of Marshall, MI.

The pay range for this position is $19.17 - $19.17/hr.
