Job Description

The Janitor maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment across office, commercial, and other facility spaces. This role focuses on comprehensive cleaning of working areas and washrooms, including floors, fixtures, and restrooms, while following safe work practices and supporting minor maintenance needs as required.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain working areas, washrooms, and general premises in a neat and orderly condition.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, and polish various types of flooring to maintain a clean and safe surface.
• Remove chips, trash, and other refuse from work areas, restrooms, and common spaces.
• Dust equipment, furniture, and fixtures to maintain a clean and presentable environment.
• Polish metal fixtures and trimmings to preserve a professional appearance.
• Clean lavatories, showers, and restrooms thoroughly, ensuring sanitary conditions.
• Provide basic supplies such as soap, paper products, and other restroom or cleaning materials as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance services related to cleaning and upkeep of the facility.
• Operate floor care and waxing machines to strip, wax, and buff floors as required.
• Follow and maintain safe work practices to ensure a hazard-free environment for staff and visitors.
• Load and unload cleaning materials and equipment safely from trucks or company vehicles.
• Climb and carry ladders when needed to access and clean higher surfaces safely.
• Travel by company automobile to different work locations when required.
• Work independently or with minimal supervision while maintaining consistent productivity and quality.
• Perform other related janitorial and general labor duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of experience in janitorial, cleaning, environmental services, or equivalent training.
• Ability to read and write English to understand instructions, safety information, and documentation.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check.
• Proficiency in general cleaning and janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing floors.
• Experience with floor care, including floor cleaning, floor maintenance, and waxing floors.
• Ability to operate waxing machines and other floor care equipment safely and effectively.
• Capability to perform housekeeping tasks in commercial or office environments.
• Physical ability to continually bend, squat, kneel, lift, twist, climb, reach, stand, and walk during an 8-hour workday.
• Ability to use hands for repetitive pushing, pulling, and single grasp motions.
• Strength to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and move objects in excess of 100 pounds.
• Ability to load and unload trucks safely and handle cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Capacity to climb and carry ladders safely to perform cleaning tasks at height.
• Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality output.
• Strong interpersonal skills to deal with others in a diplomatic and positive manner.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in custodial work within office, commercial, or similar facilities.
• Experience in environmental services or general labor related to facility cleaning.
• Knowledge of safe work practices and basic facility safety standards.
• Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and order across multiple areas.
• Reliability in delivering consistently high-quality, high-volume work on a daily basis.

Work Environment

This role involves high-volume, hands-on work during an 8-hour day, requiring continuous physical activity such as bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, twisting, climbing, reaching, standing, and walking. You will frequently use your hands for repetitive pushing, pulling, and grasping motions while operating cleaning and floor care equipment, including waxing machines and other floor maintenance tools. The position requires the ability to lift and carry objects up to 60 pounds and to move heavier items exceeding 100 pounds as needed. Work is performed in office, commercial, and similar facilities, with travel by company automobile to various work locations when required. The environment emphasizes safe work practices, proper handling of equipment and supplies, and maintaining clean, orderly spaces throughout the premises.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Millington, TN.

The pay range for this position is $19.25 - $19.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
