Safety Field Specialist
Location:
Hyattsville, MD
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00/hour
Work Environment
Primarily field-based position with frequent travel throughout the service territory. Regular exposure to construction sites, utility operations, industrial facilities, and outdoor work environments. May require extended hours, nights, weekends, or holidays in support of emergency operations. Candidates must be comfortable walking uneven terrain, accessing construction sites, and conducting field inspections.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- On-site, 5 days per week
- Potential overtime and emergency response support as needed

About the Role
The Safety Field Specialist serves as a field-based safety resource focused on promoting a strong safety culture and supporting safe work practices across operations, construction, maintenance, contractor activities, and emergency response efforts. This role partners with field personnel and leadership to identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, assist with incident investigations, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field observations, safety audits, inspections, and job site evaluations.
- Provide real-time safety coaching to employees and contractors.
- Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and operational risks while recommending corrective actions.
- Support construction, maintenance, service, and emergency response activities through field safety oversight.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Assist with regulatory inspections, audits, and contractor safety oversight.
- Participate in incident investigations involving injuries, vehicle incidents, property damage, and near misses.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Assist in delivering safety training programs, toolbox talks, and onboarding activities.
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard reviews, JHAs, and JSAs.
- Support emergency response operations, drills, exercises, and after-action reviews.
- Maintain safety records, reports, inspection logs, and corrective action tracking systems.
- Assist with safety metrics reporting, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
- Understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation methodologies.
- Ability to conduct field safety inspections and observations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence safe behaviors without direct authority.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and reporting systems.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to operational locations.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
