JOB DESCRIPTION
Insight Global is seeking an OSP Engineer for a leading telecommunications and fiber network provider in Phoenix, Arizona. This individual will support the engineering and construction of a growing fiber optic network, working closely with engineering firms, contractors, construction managers, splicing crews, municipalities, and internal teams.
The OSP Engineer will support projects from initial fiber network design through construction, installation, documentation, and turnover to plant operations. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of Outside Plant engineering, fiber network construction, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects while maintaining accurate engineering documentation.
Compensation: $30/hr - $38/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Employees in this role will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package starting on day one of employment, including options for medical, dental, and vision insurance. Eligibility to enroll in the 401(k) retirement plan begins after 90 days of employment. Additionally, employees in this role will have access to paid sick leave and other paid time off benefits as required under the applicable law of the worksite location.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Must Haves:
• 3 to 5 years of OSP engineering, fiber construction, telecommunications, or similar experience
• Understanding of fiber network design and construction processes
• Experience supporting OSP projects from planning through implementation
• Ability to read and interpret fiber, utility, and route maps
• Understanding of telecommunications and fiber network color codes
• Strong project coordination, organization, and documentation skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, construction, field, and contractor teams
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• High school diploma or equivalent
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Plusses:
• College degree or equivalent relevant experience
• OSP permitting or route-planning experience
• AutoCAD, GIS, or other fiber network design tool experience
• Experience coordinating with municipalities and outside engineering firms
• Experience supporting fiber splicing, plant maintenance, or plant relocation
• Experience with fiber inventory or asset management systems
• Experience assisting with business case development or cost-effective network design
Day-to-Day:
• Support OSP fiber projects from planning and design through construction, implementation, and turnover
• Assist with conduit, cable, fiber management, and overall network design
• Review fiber routes, utility maps, engineering drawings, splicing diagrams, and construction documentation
• Coordinate with outside engineering firms on high-level and low-level fiber designs
• Manage engineering contractors to ensure timelines, quality standards, and customer requirements are met
• Partner with construction managers, cable installation teams, and splicing crews to support project completion
• Develop and provide splicing diagrams, layouts, timelines, and workload plans
• Coordinate engineering drawings and requirements with municipalities
• Support material ordering and coordinate inventory through local material management vendors
• Help in the infrastructure ordering process as materials are needed and help support the management of materials using material management vendors in market.
• Confirm that fiber plant infrastructure is installed according to the approved design
• Ensure plant updates and final documentation are accurately entered into the inventory system
• Support maintenance, repair, and relocation of existing fiber plant
• Conduct occasional field visits and inventory system audits
• Track project progress, resolve design-related issues, and provide regular updates to internal teams
• Work with other team members in daily weekly meetings to provide updates on engineering efforts required to meet timelines.
