Job Description
The Project Architect leads and manages multifamily residential projects from initial concept through construction, with a focus on mid-rise and high-rise buildings in the New York City area. This role combines design leadership, project management, and client-facing responsibilities, and offers the opportunity to run full-cycle projects independently while working in a tight-knit, collaborative office environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multifamily residential projects from concept through construction, ensuring design quality and project delivery.
- Coordinate all aspects of design, documentation, and permitting processes for mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings.
- Ensure full compliance with New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) regulations and applicable codes.
- Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to develop, refine, and document architectural designs across all project phases.
- Collaborate closely with internal team members and provide oversight and guidance to junior staff.
- Communicate directly with clients and external stakeholders, presenting design concepts and managing expectations.
- Work on mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings ranging from approximately 70,000 to over 200,000 square feet.
- Participate in all phases of the project lifecycle, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
- Lead project teams as the project architect of record (AOR) when applicable, coordinating consultants and ensuring cohesive project execution.
- Contribute to space planning and layout optimization for multifamily residential projects.
- Support projects across multiple regions, including New York City, New Jersey, and Florida, as part of a diverse project pipeline.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience delivering NYC multifamily residential projects, specifically mid-rise and high-rise buildings.
- Demonstrated project management and project lead experience, with the ability to run full-cycle projects independently.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for design and construction documentation.
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in Revit, with experience using the software across the full project lifecycle.
- Strong client-facing communication skills, including the ability to present design concepts and manage client relationships.
- Team leadership experience, including overseeing and mentoring junior staff members.
- Hands-on experience in schematic design, design development, and construction document production for architectural projects.
- Experience with construction administration for multifamily residential buildings.
- Background in multifamily residential architecture, including space planning and unit layout design.
- Design-oriented architectural Background with a strong sense of aesthetics and functionality.
- Exposure to high-rise project work, typically ranging from 70,000 to over 200,000 square feet.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience serving as Architect of Record (AOR) on built projects.
- Project experience in New Jersey and familiarity with regional requirements.
- Exposure to projects in Florida and other markets as part of a diverse portfolio.
- Architectural licensure is valued, though not strictly required.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, family-style office culture.
- Interest in long-term career growth and taking on increasing leadership responsibility.
- Comfort working directly with clients and external stakeholders on complex multifamily projects.
Work Environment
This role is based in an in-office environment in New York City, with work performed on-site five days a week. The office fosters a tight-knit, collaborative, family-style culture where team members have direct exposure to clients and leadership responsibilities. The project pipeline is diverse, with work spanning New York City, New Jersey, and Florida, and includes mid-rise and high-rise multifamily residential buildings. The workspace is pet-friendly, and cats are present in the office, which may be a consideration for individuals with allergies.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of New York, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
