Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to support the construction of buildings housing critical mechanical components on a major infrastructure project in the Hampton Roads area. This role will oversee day-to-day field operations, coordinate subcontractors and trades, and work collaboratively with the end client to ensure project objectives are met safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on field leader with strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and at least 8 years of superintendent experience on complex construction projects.
Responsibilities- Manage and supervise daily on-site construction activities for vertical structures supporting mechanical systems.
- Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, vendors, and field crews to maintain productivity and sequencing.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Lead daily huddles, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings.
- Interface professionally with the end client, inspectors, engineers, and project leadership.
- Monitor site progress and proactively address issues related to manpower, materials, or constructability.
- Enforce site safety policies and promote a strong safety culture.
- Track work completion and assist with planning and short-interval schedules.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Procore experience.
- Construction management expertise.
- 8 years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial, industrial, or heavy civil projects.
- Ground up building experience.
- Strong background overseeing vertical construction and trade coordination.
- Comfortable working on projects involving mechanical or equipment-driven facilities/buildings.
- Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively with clients and project partners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
This position requires working onsite Monday through Thursday, following a 4-day workweek with 10-hour shifts. The role involves working on an expansion project and requires presence at the construction site.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
