Job Description
Direct Counsel is seeking a mid-to-senior-level Associate Attorney with 3+ years of experience in emerging technologies, data privacy, and/or advertising and marketing to join a growing privacy and technology practice in San Francisco.
The ideal candidate will have experience advising clients on privacy and product compliance, technology and data transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, AdTech, digital media and advertising transactions, and data breach response. Candidates with experience developing and implementing privacy programs, conducting privacy assessments, creating data maps, performing data protection impact assessments, drafting privacy policies, negotiating data processing agreements, and managing data incidents are especially encouraged to apply.
Experience advising on emerging or high-risk privacy issues—including AI, AdTech, health data, biometric data, and children’s and teen data—is highly valued. Familiarity with digital advertising technology and AI-related legal and regulatory matters is also preferred.
The successful candidate will be able to independently manage complex privacy projects and investigations, work directly with clients, and manage multiple matters across jurisdictions and regulatory frameworks. Strong project management skills are essential. The role also provides opportunities to contribute to business development and client relationship growth.
Requirements:
3+ years of relevant experience in emerging technologies, data privacy, advertising/marketing, or a related area
Experience with privacy and product compliance and counseling
Experience with technology and/or data transactions
Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
Active membership in the California State Bar
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to independently manage complex matters and investigations

Salary: $235,000–$435,000, depending on location, experience, and other factors
