Job Description
Step Aboard as a Marine Hull Structural Welder-Fabricator

Each day starts at the shipyard, where you turn drawings into durable, seaworthy structure. You’ll move from blueprint to finished weld, ensuring hulls and internal frames are built, repaired, and maintained to stand up to harsh marine environments.

A day in the life
  • Review and interpret ship blueprints and fabrication drawings to plan your sequence of work.
  • Prepare materials: remove rust, scale, old coatings, and contaminants to create clean edges and surfaces for defect-free welds.
  • Fit-up and align components using measuring tools; bevel, grind, drill, and torch-cut to spec for precise assemblies.
  • Weld in all positions—flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead—using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW on steel, aluminum, stainless, and other marine-grade alloys.
  • Select the right process parameters and filler metals based on base material, thickness, and environmental conditions to maximize durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Verify quality: perform visual inspection and non-destructive testing to validate structural integrity and compliance with marine safety standards.
  • Care for your tools and machines: maintain welding equipment and uphold strict safety protocols at all times.
What you bring
  • Proven shipyard experience (required).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex marine blueprints and drawings.
  • Proficiency with SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW across multiple positions and materials.
  • Hands-on skill with grinders, drills, cutting torches, and precision measuring tools.
  • Experience performing visual and NDT checks to meet marine safety and quality standards.
  • Commitment to equipment upkeep, safe work habits, and tidy, well-prepped work surfaces.

If you take pride in welds that keep vessels strong at sea, this role will feel like home.
