Part-Time 1st Shift Custodian/Cleaner (Year-Round)

The Custodian helps create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for Interlochen's students, faculty, staff, and guests while caring for our large and beautiful campus. This part-time, year-round opportunity works three days per week from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Custodians take ownership of an assigned building, prioritizing daily cleaning needs and maintaining floors, glass, restrooms, common areas, and other spaces. Working both independently and alongside the Environmental Services team, this role is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys being part of the vibrant environment where our students live, learn, create, and perform.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Clean and care for assigned buildings and spaces, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, residence halls, common areas, and other campus facilities.
• Perform routine custodial tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning glass and surfaces, sanitizing restrooms, and removing trash and recycling.
• Take ownership of assigned areas, independently assessing and prioritizing cleaning needs based on daily building use, events, and schedules.
• Work collaboratively with other EVS team members on larger spaces, special projects, events, and high-volume campus needs.
• Prepare and refresh spaces for students, employees, guests, performances, programs, and special events.
• Respond to spills, unexpected cleaning needs, and other custodial requests throughout the workday.
• Safely operate custodial equipment, tools, and campus vehicles as needed.
• Maintain custodial supplies and communicate when additional products or support are needed.
• Help ensure campus spaces are clean, welcoming, and ready for the people who use them each day.
• Perform other custodial duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• No previous custodial experience required, although prior housekeeping, custodial, or commercial cleaning experience is a plus.
• Willingness and ability to learn Interlochen's cleaning standards, procedures, equipment, and products through on-the-job training.
• Ability to work independently, manage daily priorities, and take ownership of assigned buildings and spaces.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Environmental Services team, including supporting larger projects, events, and changing campus needs.
• Ability to safely use standard custodial equipment and tools, including vacuums, mops, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, and sweepers.
• Ability to safely handle cleaning products and chemicals and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including prolonged standing and walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and operating custodial equipment.
• Ability to work throughout a large campus and in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions.
• Flexibility to adjust work priorities and schedules during high-volume periods, special events, and other peak campus activities.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize when assigned spaces meet Interlochen's cleanliness and presentation standards.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the campus community.
• Must meet and maintain Interlochen Center for the Arts' background screening requirements.
• Valid driver's license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA's insurance carrier when driving is required for the position.
