Assistant Bar Manager (Multi-Venue Hospitality)

We are seeking an energetic, dependable Assistant Bar Manager to help oversee daily bar operations across our three premier hospitality destinations in Iowa City.

This role is ideal for a skilled lead bartender, head shift supervisor, or assistant manager ready to step into a multi-entity leadership role. You will support the management team in driving daily shift execution, maintaining high service standards, managing floor staff, and ensuring peak profitability during high-volume nightlife shifts and game days.

Key Responsibilities

• Floor & Shift Leadership: Run active floor shifts, open/close venues, manage floor flow, and support bartenders and barbacks during high-volume hours.
• Staff Support & Supervision: Assist with training, mentoring, and monitoring performance for front-of-house staff across all three venues.
• Inventory & Cash Management: Assist with weekly inventory counts, restocking, draft line upkeep, register drawer check-outs, and safe drops.
• Game Day & Event Execution: Coordinate floor logistics, bar stocking, and door/security presence for peak events, Hawkeye sports days, and weekend nightlife.
• Quality & Safety Enforcement: Enforce strict ID checks, Iowa alcohol compliance standards, ServSafe guidelines, and facility cleanliness.
• Problem Resolution: Address guest concerns, resolve shift bottlenecks, and manage staff schedules or call-outs promptly.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 2+ years of high-volume bartending, lead bartending, or shift supervisor experience in high-energy bars, sports bars, or nightlife venues.
• Certifications: Iowa Responsible Beverage Service (I-PLEDGE) and ServSafe certifications (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
• Leadership Qualities: High energy, strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to lead by example under pressure.
• Availability: Must have full flexibility to work late nights, weekends, game days, and holidays.
