Part-Time Special Needs Caregiver/Babysitter for Autistic Child

We are looking for a kind, patient, dependable caregiver to provide part-time care for our 9-year-old son with autism in our home in the Carthage, NC area.

Our son is mostly nonverbal but is gaining verbal communication. He is a sweet, active child, and we are looking for someone who will take the time to get to know him, understand his communication, and build a trusting relationship with him.

We are specifically looking for someone with experience working with autistic or developmentally disabled children. Experience as an ABA technician/RBT, special education teacher or assistant, respite caregiver, CNA, occupational therapy assistant, or similar background would be a huge plus.

Responsibilities may include:

Providing attentive one-on-one supervision

Playing and engaging with him in activities he enjoys

Helping with snacks/meals and basic daily needs

Supporting his communication and independence

Assisting with toileting/personal care when necessary

Maintaining a calm, safe environment

Closely supervising him due to elopement/wandering risk

We want someone who is patient and comfortable meeting him where he is. We are not looking for someone to provide therapy—we want a caregiver who can keep him safe, happy, engaged, and comfortable while we are away.

Ideal candidate:

Has direct experience with autistic children

Comfortable caring for a mostly nonverbal child

Understands elopement/wandering and the importance of constant supervision

Patient, calm, dependable, and genuinely enjoys working with children

Comfortable with occasional toileting assistance

CPR/First Aid certified or willing to become certified

Has reliable transportation

Willing to complete a background check

Non-smoker

Schedule would be part-time and can be discussed based on availability. We would initially like the caregiver to spend time with our son while a parent is home so everyone can become comfortable before independent babysitting begins.
