Packaging Machine Operator

We are seeking a skilled Thermoformer Machine Operator to join our food production team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting automated rollstock thermoforming packaging machinery, specifically ULMA equipment focused on vacuum packaging. You will ensure products are safely sealed, correctly labeled, and meet strict quality and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

● Setup, calibrate, and operate ULMA roll stock thermoforming machinery during daily production runs.

● Perform film changeovers (top and bottom web), mold/die swaps, and adjustment of sealing temperatures and vacuum levels.

● Inspect finished packages continuously for seal integrity, vacuum loss, proper print orientation, and label accuracy.

● Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance (e.g., replacing heating elements, gaskets, cutting knives, or alignment sensors).

● Maintain strict adherence to USDA, FDA, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and SQF protocols.

● Clear machine jams safely and minimize film waste and product downtime.

● Complete daily production logs and downtime reports accurately.

Required Experience & Skills

● Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of hands-on experience operating automatic rollstock thermoforming packaging machines in a food processing environment (meat, poultry, seafood, or dairy preferred).

● Equipment Knowledge: Direct experience operating ULMA Packaging thermoformers (TFS Series) is strongly preferred. Experience with similar OEMs (e.g., Multivac, GEA / Powerpak, VC999, Rollstock Inc.) is also acceptable.

● Knowledge of vacuum packaging and heat-sealing principles (note: line operates strictly vacuum packaging; no MAP or gas flushing required).

● Familiarity with Food Safety protocols (USDA/FDA, GMP, HACCP, Allergen control).

Assets & Preferred Backgrounds

● General Machining Experience: Candidates with experience operating, setting up, or maintaining other industrial machinery (e.g., CNC equipment, flow wrappers, tray sealers, conveyors, high-speed automated packaging, or industrial mechanics) are strongly encouraged to apply.

● Basic understanding of pneumatics, electrical sensors, PLCs/HMIs, and mechanical drive systems.

● High school diploma or GED; trade school or technical certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

● Ability to stand, walk, and bend for the duration of a shift in a cold plant environment (approx. 40°ree;F–50°ree;F).

● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (film rolls, tooling changeovers).

The hourly rate would range from $13.25 to $15 per hour depending on experience.  In addition to the hourly rate, we offer a punctuality bonus of an additional dollar per hour worked up to the first 40 hours. We also offer a retention bonus for new employees: $10 per day for the first 4 weeks contingent on no absences.
