DESCRIPTION:
The School Age Teacher plans and leads developmentally appropriate activities that support children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Working collaboratively with the program director and other staff, the teacher maintains a positive learning environment, provides active supervision, builds relationships with families, and supports compliance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care regulations and CA policies.
Morning, afternoon, and combined shift opportunities may be available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that reflect children's ages, interests, abilities, and developmental needs.
- Provide a balanced variety of experiences, including creative arts, STEM activities, literacy, physical activity, cooperative games, outdoor play, and opportunities for choice and independent exploration.
- Support homework completion and positive learning habits while maintaining an engaging before- and after-school experience.
- Actively supervise children throughout the program, including arrival, dismissal, transitions, indoor activities, and outdoor play.
- Maintain accurate attendance and child-accountability procedures, follow authorized pickup requirements, and help maintain required staff-to-child ratios and group sizes.
- Use positive guidance, clear expectations, and developmentally appropriate redirection to support self-regulation, problem-solving, and respectful interactions.
- Create an inclusive environment that respects children's individual needs, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities; implement approved accommodations and support plans as directed.
- Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, colleagues, and school personnel.
- Communicate relevant information about children's experiences and needs to families and program leadership while protecting confidentiality.
- Follow established procedures for injuries, illness, emergencies, evacuation drills, and suspected child abuse or neglect, including applicable reporting obligations.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces through daily setup, cleanup, sanitation, and identification of potential hazards.
- Complete required records and incident reports accurately and promptly.
- Participate in staff meetings, required training, and ongoing professional development.
- Collaborate with the program director to guide assistants and aides in daily activities and consistent supervision practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Meet applicable MSDE Office of Child Care qualifications for a School Age Child Care Teacher under COMAR 13A.16.06.10, including age, education, training, and experience requirements.
- Qualify through an approved pathway, which may include required preservice coursework and experience, an eligible degree, qualifying teacher certification, or another pathway recognized by the regulation.
- Provide documentation of education, approved training, and qualifying experience.
- Complete required ADA and basic health and safety training within applicable regulatory timeframes.
- Complete required background screenings and employment health documentation.
- Obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification as required for the assignment.
- Complete required continuing education and maintain a professional development plan, including at least 12 hours of approved training per full year of employment.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, dependable attendance, effective communication, and the ability to respond calmly to children's needs.
- Be able to perform essential job duties, including active supervision and participation in indoor and outdoor activities, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Experience working with elementary school-age children in a licensed child care program, school, camp, or recreation setting.
- Experience developing engaging activities and supporting positive behavior.
- Experience supporting children with diverse developmental, learning and social emotional needs.
