Job Description:

  • The Failure Analysis Team is seeking a Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA) Technician/Analyst to support evaluation of electrical and mechanical components and printed wiring boards (PWBs).
  • This role focuses on determining compliance with military, space, and industry standards to ensure components meet RTX program requirements.
  • The ideal candidate has some general experience in a laboratory environment and is comfortable using common lab tools such as microscopes, hand tools, and basic chemical ‐ handling equipment.
  • Attention to detail, clear documentation skills, and a willingness to learn new tools and methods are essential.
  • Familiarity with interpreting specifications and engineering drawings, as well as performing dimensional measurements is ideal. Overtime or swing ‐ shift work may be required to support program needs.


Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience working in an analytical lab environment.
  • Attention to detail, creative and mechanically inclined
  • Familiarity with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering, and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with microscopy tools
  • Familiar with taking dimensional measurement using tools such as calipers, rulers, and optical measurements
  • Experience troubleshooting machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be teachable, detail oriented, can work in a fast-paced environment, works well in a team environment


Preferred:

  • Experience and knowledgeable of various analytical techniques such as micro-sectioning or chemical deprocessing.
  • Familiarity with military standards, performance specifications, and component related documents.
  • Report generation programs (MS Word, Excel, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
  • Basic chemistry knowledge of elements and periodic table
  • Demonstrable experience with basic electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other testing equipment
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, such as plating, PWB assembly, IC and hybrid assembly.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Design custom fixtures to be 3D printed for sample presentation to tools.
  • CAD experience and ability to read schematic diagrams
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Education:

  • High School diploma, technical trade school with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • An AA or BA degree in STEM is preferred.
