Job Description

The Scientific Technician independently performs, interprets, and troubleshoots laboratory procedures related to unit and donor suitability testing and other required assays. This role conducts routine analytical testing using both manual and automated methods, analyzes results against established controls, and ensures all work complies with current Good Manufacturing Practices and regulatory standards. The position offers an excellent entry point into the medical field for candidates with a bachelor’s degree, providing training in donor processing and manufacturing within a structured and supportive laboratory environment.

Shift: Monday through Friday - 2:30PM - 10PM

Responsibilities

• Independently perform, interpret, and troubleshoot laboratory procedures related to unit and donor suitability testing and other assays as required.
• Develop proficiency in laboratory information systems and understand the full workflow of samples through the lab.
• Perform routine analytical testing using manual and automated methods and procedures, and analyze test results against set controls.
• Complete scheduled maintenance and Quality Control (QC) activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Work in full compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and adhere to all applicable regulatory standards within the laboratory.
• Share information and collaborate effectively with internal contacts to support problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Follow all safety regulations and comply with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies and rules.
• Operate analytical instrumentation and technical laboratory equipment safely and accurately.
• Perform and document troubleshooting and calibration of instruments in accordance with established procedures.
• Perform and document routine preventive maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedules and procedures, and promptly notify appropriate personnel of issues or irregularities.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or in medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) qualification, with licensure in the State of Tennessee preferred.
• Up to two (2) years of related laboratory experience preferred; recent graduates are also considered.
• Foundational knowledge of chemistry, laboratory practices, and medical laboratory concepts.
• Intermediate to strong computer skills, including the ability to learn and use laboratory information systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively within the department and with other laboratory departments.
• Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), cGMP guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration activities.

Work Environment

This position is based in a lab and office environment at a donor processing and manufacturing facility, working Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The role follows a set shift with no on-call responsibilities and no STAT lab demands typical of hospital settings, providing a predictable and structured daily operating rhythm. The laboratory operates under current Good Manufacturing Practices and strict regulatory and safety standards, including comprehensive Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies. Employees use analytical instrumentation, technical laboratory equipment, and laboratory information systems in a professional, positive work setting. This is a Contract position based out of Knoxville, TN.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Knoxville,TN.
