Actalent is Hiring: Technical Writer

Location: San Diego, CA Area

Pay Rate: $60-$65/hour

Duration: Estimated 12-month contract with potential for extensions and the opportunity to apply for a direct hire position.

Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret Clearance

Actalent is actively seeking a Technical Writer with experience supporting complex technical programs and developing high-quality documentation in regulated or engineering-driven environments. We are looking for qualified candidates ASAP for this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation including program plans, technical reports, test procedures, statements of work, user manuals, requirements documents, and proposal materials.
• Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure technical content is accurate, clear, and compliant.
• Support document publication, configuration control, and delivery processes.
• Capture meeting minutes, action items, and documentation from technical reviews and engineering meetings.
• Ensure consistency, quality, and accuracy across all program documentation.
• Manage multiple priorities while meeting documentation schedules and deadlines.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of related experience, Master's degree with 3+ years of related experience, or PhD with 1+ year of related experience.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain SAP access.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documents, program plans, and process documentation.
• Strong technical writing and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with engineering teams, program management, and customers.

Preferred Experience

• Knowledge of Statements of Work (SOWs), Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), and Configuration Management processes.
• Experience with security classification guides and controlled documentation requirements.
• Proposal development experience, including Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and technical volume editing.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Familiarity with Jira and documentation management best practices.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
